Ella Schmalzl

Ella Schmalzl was born in 2009 in Villach, Austria. She began playing the cello at the age of five. Since the age of ten, she has been a student in the Highly Gifted Programs of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Her teachers are István Várdai and István Varga.
Ella has won first prizes in numerous national and international competitions, including the National Antal Friss Cello Competition in Hungary, the Young Musicians Competition – Prize Antonio Salieri in Italy, Talents for Europe in Slovakia, the Antonio Janigro Junior competition in Croatia, the Jan Vychytil Competition in Prague, and the International Music Competition Musica Goritiensis.
In June 2024, she was awarded the WSY-Talent 2024 Young Talent Prize by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. As a result, she performed as a soloist with the orchestra under the musical direction of Christoph Koncz at the Vienna Musikverein.
